The Platform that Powered $78.1M in Grant Wins
By the time you read this case study, its headline will be outdated. GrantExec, the platform thousands of companies rely on to find and secure grants, is generating wins so quickly that in just two weeks since writing the first draft of this article, the total secured grants jumped from $43.5M to $78.1M.
The driver behind this impressive growth is Ryan Alcorn, a first-time founder who first conceptualized GrantExec as an undergraduate at UVA. Seeing how frustrating it was for organizations to navigate the massive and complex U.S. grant ecosystem, Ryan saw an opportunity to build a powerful data engine to streamline the process of tracking and identifying federal and private grants. Despite having a strong product, he faced the familiar hurdles of early-stage founders: inconsistent sales processes, team dynamics, limited runway, and countless unknown challenges.
In 2024, Ryan met John Bracken and Matt Callaway, founders of SparkWorks, who introduced him to the concept of a suite of fractional executives and advisors providing guidance, scaffolding, and hands-on support. What began as general advisory sessions quickly expanded once Ryan realized the full breadth of SparkWorks’ network that covered marketing, PR, sales enablement, legal, and operational execution.
Below is an overview of three specific, high-impact ways SparkWorks helped Ryan and his team accelerate growth and prepare for the next stages of scaling and operational maturity.
